Progressive Insurance Automotive X Prize Competition
Progressive Automotive X Prize goal is to inspire a new generation of viable, safe, affordable and super fuel efficient vehicles that people want to buy. $10 million in prizes will be awarded in September 2010 to the teams that win a rigorous stage competition for clean, production-capable vehicles that exceed 100 MPG energy equivalent (Miles per Gallon, approximately 42 km per litre).
The Progressive Automotive X Prize will place a major focus on affordability, safety, and the environment. It is about developing real, production-capable cars that consumers want to buy, not science projects or concept cars. This progress is needed because today’s oil consumption is unsustainable and because automotive emissions significantly contribute to global warming and climate change.
As official contenders we've had a few very busy days in June 2010 with in the U.S. for the ShakeDown tests. Now we can say that we're proud to be between the 24 Teams whom have passed the ShakeDown Stage.
There were 111 teams officially registered for the competition in February 2009, most of them didn't make it so far.
It's been hard to comply with the X Prize Foundation requirements.
Also because our vehicle is not purposely designed for this competition. is born as a vehicle to fullfill urban and suburban commuter's needs, indeed it is a PCV, a Personal Commuting Vehicle.
This is a class apart from existing categories.
Then it happens that our philosophy about fuel efficiency, safety, viability, meets the Progressive Insurance Automotive X Prize standards quite well so it was possible for us to take part to the event while following our original goal.
It's been challenging for us to review the entire project to make it fit for the X Prize.
A challenge that we won.
Unfortunately on Sunday it happened that during our free ride tests on Michigan International Speedway track we’ve had a technical problem.
Something in our ICE (gas propelled engine) has got wrong and now it is impossible for us to fix the problem in time for the KnockOut Stage.
It’s been really disappointing for all of us even if we knew that a mechanical fault was always possible.
You can get a failure when you push your machine to the limit to get the best performance.
You have to accept the risk when you compete.
It would have been a huge satisfaction for us to get to the later stage of the X Prize. For sure we can say that to get to this stage it's already a big success for us.
To have the Shakedown Test passed means that is a solid project, a vehicle that could easily be produced and sold.
Thanks to all the Team whom has worked hard to get to this point.
Thanks to all the people that follow us.
project goes on.
The next big challenge is to hit the market,
